The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kathy Hilton has made some hilarious blunders in the past, however, her latest gaffe does not exactly deserve a laugh. After her appearance on Watch What Happens Live on August 10, many fans have expressed their disappointment with the reality TV star on social media.
A moment later, Lizzo's face appeared on the big screen during a round of "Will Kathy Know Them?" - a game in which she had to identify celebrities based only on their photographs. Despite initially implying that she recognized the singer, Kathy ultimately blurted out, "Precious?"
It was unclear whether Kathy was referring to the fictional character named Precious or Gabourey Sidibe, who portrayed her in the 2009 film Precious. Some viewers have suggested that Kathy may have been thinking of the model Precious Lee as well. In spite of this, many people were dissatisfied with the response.
As TV Personality Kalen Allen tweeted, "That Kathy Hilton clip is messed up and y'all know it's messed up." Lizzo always minds her own business, but everyone makes jokes about her, and in this case, it isn't even intentional. The stray she caught was too big for her to handle, and I wish someone had intervened.."
Likewise, Kalen emphasized that although some people may consider the current moment to be "not that deep," it is a different experience for those like Lizzo, who continually face scrutiny just "for existing." In another tweet, he stated, "Many people used Precious' name as a derogatory label to fuel their fatphobia and to bully." In other words, I don't find it funny that Lizzo, while home minding her own business, was called Precious in front of millions.
Another Twitter user commented, "Precious isn't even a real person and this was not funny," while another commented, "I understand Kathy Hilton does not know much, but how in the world did she manage to confuse Lizzo with Gabourey Sidibe?" It certainly plays into the trope that we all appear alike to them.."
Kathy's defense was offered by others, who asserted that she had no idea who Ryan Reynolds or Justin Timberlake was when she played the game. Additionally, Kathy once mistook Garcelle Beauvais for her own sister, Kyle Richards, on the RHOBH series. As one tweet stated, "if you watch the show, you know Kathy has trouble seeing and sometimes is unable to recognize her own staff."
Another tweet acknowledged this point and said, "She does make mistakes a lot, but saying Precious is something very insidious. It's not just comparing Lizzo to a fat black person by reference to her weight, but erasing Gabourey's identity."
