A few readers questioned Steve Toussaint's casting in ' House of the Dragon ', aka the 'Sea Snake ', who played famed sailor Lord Corlys Velaryon, aka the 'Sea Snake ' in the HBO series. But the actor has responded to the negative backlash he received. In George R.R. Martin's "Fire & Blood," the book that inspired the "Game of Thrones" prequels, this character is not a Black man. This is due to the fact that he is the husband of Princess Rhaenys Targaryen.
“Except for certain people's viewpoints about someone who looks like me playing this role, it hasn't really impacted the role or my experience on the job with my colleagues,” Toussaint explained during Saturday's Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con, responding to a question asked by moderator Jason Concepcion. The idea that someone who looks like me would play this role is hard to stomach for some outsiders. That's something they have to deal with, not me. My only problem is saying the lines convincingly and avoiding bumping into furniture."
