Paddy Considine revealed, that he declined to be a part of Game of Thrones without even reading the script. The actor now portrays King Viserys I Targaryen in House of the Dragon, starring alongside Matt Smith and Emma D'Arcy as his siblings. Considine discussed receiving the script for Thrones from his agent in an interview.
In his words, "It is about dragons," Considine recalled. I did not even read it. I went, "No thanks." Even though the show became a global phenomenon, Considine said he had no regrets, adding, "If I couldn't get myself to an audition, that would be my choice."
He happened to be watching the show with his family during the Covid-19 lockdown, which was, coincidentally, when he received the call to appear in the prequel series.
King Viserys was probably chosen by the lords of Westeros to become the successor to Jaehaerys Targaryen at the Great Council at Harrenhal, according to HBO's official description. As we have learned from Game of Thrones, good men do not necessarily make for great kings. Viserys is a warm, kind, and decent man who only wishes to carry on his grandfather's legacy.
Smith said that he aimed to make his character, Daemon Targaryen, more "delicate" in his appearance on The Official Game of Thrones Podcast: House of the Dragon with Considine”. It was my intention to make it a bit more delicate, and fragile. He seems like quite a fragile creature to me," Smith said with a smile.
In the United States, House of the Dragon will premiere on HBO Max on 21 August and in the United Kingdom, it will premiere on Sky Atlantic and NOW on 22 August.
