Noah Thompson, a former construction worker who won "American Idol," is another high-profile act scheduled to perform at the Great New York State Fair. Thompson won the singing competition after his friend, Arthur Noah randomly entered him.

A lot of New Yorkers and fairgoers can relate to Noah Thompson's story, said interim Fair Director Sean Hennessey. Just a few weeks after winning one of the world's top singing contests, we are thrilled to have him perform on our stage. The audience will be able to say they saw Noah in the future as he has a promising career ahead.

The Kentucky native is scheduled to perform on September 4 at 2 pm at Chevy Court. He won the 20th season of "American Idol" with 16 million votes, beating HunterGirl in the finals. Thompson, 20, has a 1-year-old son named Walker.

A laid-back attitude and an acoustic guitar accompanied Thompson as he approached Idol judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie. As soon as he heard Kameron Marlowe's "Giving You Up", he knew he would never have to grind gutters in construction again.

During Thompson's time on Idol, he performed Rihanna's "Stay," Harry Styles' "Falling," and Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide". Thompson performed a duet with Melissa Etheridge, singing "I'm the Only One."

Right before Thompson was crowned winner, viewers heard Thompson's original, "One Day Tonight," which hit number one on iTunes. The 2022 NYS Fair begins on August 24 and runs through September 5. Concerts are free with general admission. Tickets are $3 on the fair's website.
