The ensemble cast of Chicago PD makes the show what it is. The show is primarily about the chemistry between the members of the IU, but most episodes focus on a single character. A handful of actors were brought on, only to have their scenes cut from the episode that aired, which may surprise fans.

Dick Wolf Productions signed four actors to make them central cast members of Chicago PD. As a result, all four of them appeared in Chicago Fire's episode "Let Her Go," which served as the backdoor pilot for PD. Tania Raymonde, Kelly Blatz, Scott Eastwood, Melissa Sagemiller, and Scott Eastwood were the actors involved.

All four played police officers who worked under Voight and helped solve the episode's central case. In the film, Eastwood plays an officer named Jim Barnes, a burgeoning star at the time. How did things turn out? PD's main cast was trimmed down to the familiar and beloved characters because there were too many. The pilot episode does not feature Eastwood, Blatz, or Raymonde, and Sagemiller appears only briefly.

The four actors have all had successful careers outside the Windy City. Besides appearing in Suicide Squad 2016 and The Fate of the Furious 2017, Eastwood is also known for her role in Law & Order: SVU. Since 2016, Raymonde has starred in the Amazon series Goliath, while Blatz has starred in Fear the Walking Dead and The Good Wife.
