Following its reveal at the most recent San Diego Comic-Con, HBO has released the extended trailer for the upcoming Game of Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon. Fire-breathing beasts, feuding families, and more mentions of the Iron Throne than you can shake a stick at are all prominent elements. Earlier in the week, the broadcaster unveiled a new promo, and the one shown at SDCC 2022 looks much the same - but with a bit more footage.
The story follows the tensions between the Targaryens and the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros two centuries before the events of the original series. This series, which spans several years, sees King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine) break tradition by naming his daughter Rhaenyra heir to the Iron Throne, much to the displeasure of his entitled brother Daemon.
Meanwhile, Olivia Cooke plays Otto Hightower's daughter Alicent. Rhys Ifans plays Otto Hightower, the plotting Hand of the King. Viserys explains to Rhaenyra in the clip that the Iron Throne is the most dangerous seat in the realm. It is too easy for us to lose our line. We are vulnerable."
In another scene, Princess Rhaenys Velaryon whispers to Lord Corlys Velaryon that Rhaenyra's succession will be challenged. She goes on to say, "The knives will come out." There is no doubt in our minds that this will occur. HBO and HBO Max will premiere House of the Dragon on August 21, followed by NOW and Sky Atlantic in the UK the following day.
