The American Idol judges should have seen this coming with a contestant's surprise reveal on America's Got Talent

America's Got Talent has ended the latest episode in a pretty perfect way, as the auditions of Season 17 are coming to an end. Even though it wasn't another act that convinced the judges to break the rules and hit a golden buzzer during the bonus round, it was the surprise reveal that none other than Sethward was returning to the show that had everyone in stitches - including the judges.

The comedian has officially achieved the level of AGT fame that members of the audience were shouting his name, and the judges seemed quite pleased with him... very much even though they probably should have seen the "wardrobe malfunction" coming. There was no doubt that this was Sethward!

Even though he has taken the form of a variety of animals in the past, including caterpillars, walruses, and peacocks, this time he chose to look like a fruit. After he was buzzed by Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, Heidi Klum, and Howie Mandel that he was a stand-up comic from New York going by the name of "the Big Apple." It was after he was buzzed by these celebrities that he revealed that he was not a stand-up who failed on AGT, but the AGT frequent flyer disguised as a worm! There is just no way to describe how incredible this act is, you have to see it to believe it.

After appearing as Sethward the Caterpillar back in Season 13 of the show, this was Sethward's fourth season on the show. The crowd and the judges may not have been won over by him on that night in 2018, but he has steadily built up a reputation ever since. Unlike the last time, this time audience members were shouting his name and explaining his identity to those who did not know who he was.

When Sethward "accidentally" flashed the crowd, it brought the wild act to a chaotic end, but it wasn't a surprise to those who remembered him as the caterpillar when he ended up flashing everyone on stage in the end.

Although Sofia Vergara still looked confused at first when he showed his face to her, everyone in the audience was happier to see Sethward back to his old tricks rather than the Big Apple's comedy routine. The fact of the matter is she hasn't been part of the Sethward saga from the beginning, since she joined AGT as a judge only after his first two seasons on the show.

Even though I wasn't the biggest fan of Sethward back in the early days, I have to admit that my excitement over the reveal was just as high as everyone else's. Immediately after the comic disappeared into his apple costume and started wriggling around, I did start to connect the dots, but I have to admit that I didn't foresee Sethward the Worm rhythmically wriggling along to "Dancing in the Moonlight." Not a bad way to end the second-to-last night of auditions for Season 17.

Sethward's appearance may be his last in season 17 since he was buzzed by all four judges before his reveal. By now, I think there is at least some chance that he will be able to find a new costume to compete for the $1 million prize each season. Several contestants are likely to learn their fates soon after the judges' deliberations in the current season.

In spite of receiving enough votes to move forward during auditions, those without a golden buzzer are not guaranteed a place in the live shows, so be sure to tune in! On Tuesday, August 2 at 8 p.m. ET, NBC will air the next episode of America's Got Talent.

The good news is that if you have fallen behind, you can catch up streaming with a Peacock subscription, and you can find more shows to fill primetime shortly with our list of 2022 TV premieres.
